Winter is Coming So Protect Your Sewer Line

Posted by & filed under Sewer Repair.

With colder weather setting in, it is clear that winter is approaching along with all of the issues that can come along with it. One of the most important things to do is to prepare your sewer line in order to avoid sewer repair in the dead of winter. Problems to your plumbing can be avoided during the cold season if you take all precautions to secure the entire system.
Sewer line backups are common this time of year due to freezing, thawing and ice and water entering sewer pipes. Nothing is worse than the smell and inconvenience of a backed up sewer. As experts in sewer repair for Bloomington, we’ve put together some tips and benefits to tending to your sewer before winter sets in.

sewer replacement

First, you will need to have all damages, great or small, fixed before winter. If there’s a clog, have it unclogged. If there are leaks, have them fixed with sewer repair; trenchless or traditional. And, everything related to the water and sewer systems that are outdoors should either be taken inside, shut off, or protected in some way. For example, if you have a garden hose, remove it and turn off any outdoor faucets. This will help prevent the cold from entering the sewer pipes.

And, if you are going on a long vacation do not turn off your heating completely; this could cause pipes to freeze and a whole slurry of issues.

Regular cleaning and occasional inspection can go a long way to help avoid potential sewer repair. At Gene’s Water & Sewer, we can handle these important inspections and cleanings for you. A sewer line inspection can help you determine what type of blockage or cracks your sewer pipe has. An inspection is also beneficial in determining the best solution for a sewer problem, thus, saving you time and money in trying to figure out what is wrong and what methods should work.

If your system does require repairs, a trenchless sewer repair gets you the repairs you need without a huge trench having to be dug in your yard. The process works through the installation of a resin-based liner that is pulled through your existing pipes, ultimately to be inflated.

No matter what, be sure not to put off your sewer repair for too long. And, getting your pipes cleaned by professionals like us can help keep your sewer system in good shape.

Following the Flush: How Water and Sewer Systems Work

Posted by & filed under Water & Sewer Systems.

The water and sewer systems at your Richfield home are mostly likely out-of-site, out-of-mind. But, a downed sewer system brings them back to the surface. While it may appear to be a complex maze of pipes, fittings and valves, your home plumbing, water and sewer systems are actually made up of three basic components: a water supply system, appliances and fixtures, and a drain system. Here is a brief rundown of how it all comes together:

First, fresh water enters your home through the main water supply line connected to a municipal water company or your well. Upon entering your home the main supply line splits off, running to the hot water heater and throughout the pipes in the home to your bath tubs, clothes washers, dishwashers and sinks.

Wastewater or any other water used within the home that is not consumed enters the drain system to be removed from the home. The drain system within your home works entirely by gravity, allowing wastewater to flow downhill through a series of large pipes. You must take care of these systems to ensure they do not become clogged.

Regular cleanings of your water and sewer systems performed by the professionals here at Gene’s Water & Sewer will go a long way in avoiding potential sewer system replacement. Gene’s Water and Sewer will gladly field any questions and concerns you have about your water and sewer systems and get you on our schedule.

In order to avoid problems with your water and sewer systems please remember you should never flush or dump solid objects, hair, cloth, grease or animal fats into your drain system. You should also never plant trees over or near sewer lines and if you experience problems that you cannot take care of yourself, you should always contact the experts for any necessary repairs or replacement.

If you find that your plumbing is beyond the cleaning point and is in actual need of repair, options do exist. A trenchless sewer repair gets you a sewer system replacement and without a huge trench having to be dug in your yard. This type of sewer system replacement means you need not worry over having your property ripped up to have the replacement completed. This process is a lot less in the way of hassle that can be implemented at most homes and with most sewer systems.

4 Signs it’s Time for Sewer Repair

Posted by & filed under Sewer Repair.

All drains in your home eventually connect to the large pipe that is your sewer drain. This drain gets tons of use each and every day, handling each gallon of waste water leaving your home. However, in most homes the sewer line is buried under the property making it difficult to know when it’s having problems. In some ways it can be quite obvious sewer repair is needed. From odor to sewage overflow, the signs and signals can be pretty pronounced.

But, some sewer damage can be more elusive. As experts in sewer system repair for Minneapolis, we thought we would provide a list of the signs to look out for as well as a rundown of the most popular types of sewer repair to get your sewer line back in tip-top shape.

Soggy Patches in the Yard

When your sewer line is leaking, it could mean that a lot of water is leaking from the sewer line and being distributed under your lawn. So, if you notice soggy patches, raised patches or pooling in your yard, this is a major sign that something is wrong. If there is a burst pipe underground, the water will collect on the ground above it. And if your home’s water is rusty or discolored, you should definitely call for sewer system repair.

The water traveling through your sewer line is not pleasant smelling. So, if you smell an unpleasant odor around your property it may mean that the source of those odors is your sewer line. A sewer inspection from Gene’s Water & Sewer will be able to tell you if your sewer is the source of the odor and recommend the proper sewer system repair.

If your toilet or drains are clogging up easily or not draining as quickly as they used to, sewer system repair might be needed. The mainline could be clogged, and that is the kind of repair that should be left to the professionals.

Tree Roots

Tree roots are a very common cause of sewer line issues. They can grow and wedge their way into your sewer pipe through joints and cause a huge amount of damage.

When your sewer is experiencing any of these issues, proper sewer system repair is needed. And, there are a few options you can consider. At Gene’s Water & Sewer we offer a few different types of sewer system repair including traditional, semi-trenchless and trenchless. Each of these require various amounts of digging and we can determine which is right for you and your home. And once we’ve determined and you agree, we will get your sewer system repair underway!

What is Sewer Lining Anyway?

Posted by & filed under Sewer Repair, Sewer Replacement.

It’s like a pipe within a pipe! In brief, sewer lining is a major element of a new technology that allows for your pipes to be fixed with a very small amount of digging required. Gene’s Water & Sewer, experts in sewer lining for Bloomington and surrounding areas offers this service as a more efficient, cost effective means to repair damaged pipes underground. It is a less pricey option in the long run as it eliminates the annoyance of having your yard or driveway completely dug up. The ambient-resin based sewer liners are “pull in place,” and make a one continuous pipe inside the existing sewer pipe.

Going the trenchless or semi-trenchless route for your sewer lining implementation can even offer a better flow of waste from your home to the sewer system.  The cracks, fractures and bursts that create the need to have a new pipe drawn in to replace the old will become a thing of the past with trenchless sewer liner repair!

But how does sewer lining work? Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP) or epoxy lining provides the same strength as a new pipe but without the hassle. The first step is we insert a camera into the broken pipe to take a look at the situation. We eye up the problem to make sure there are not more problems down the line. We will then make sure the pipe is cleaned using high pressure water and some other tools. Things like roots, mud and other debris are cleared out of the pipe before we put the new sewer liner in.

Next, we put together the resin needed for the inside of the sewer lining. With resin poured into the liner, we make sure this is evenly distributed throughout the liner.

Trenchless sewer replacement is much cleaner than the other options available. It saves the trouble of having your yard and landscaping uprooted. It also eliminates the need to dig up those nasty sewer lines. So there is no need to worry about hiring yet another company to come to your home to replant your landscaping or to fix anything.

Trenchless sewer replacement is the fastest option among sewer lining repair options. With the “no dig” technology, these repairs can usually be done in less than one day, which means minimal disruption for you and your family.

Your sewer lines will function better than they ever did before with trenchless repair thanks to our higher quality materials. We are proud of the work we provide and our ability to meet or exceed our customers’ expectations. So give us a call and we can discuss if trenchless repairs and sewer lining will work for your home.
